June 2017 Classic TF Registrar’s Report

Thanks to Michael Hough

Welcome to another successful month of MG Motoring, and I hope that all the cars in your collection are going well.

In this month’s CLASSIC TF Registrar’s report, I am pleased to provide:

  • A report on the 2016 MG Car Club Concours and Display Day Show & Shine Winner’s Car – a Classic TF owned by Dan Hickey
  • A report on the National Motoring Day display, held at Berry Showground

Fessing up-  By providing you with a report on our Show & Shine 2016 winning car, I want to continue encouraging you to get your classic TF out and come to the second half Classic TF run-which will be the MG Car Club 2017 Concours and Display Day on Sunday the 22nd of October, 2017.

Each year I throw out a challenge to all classic TF owners to see if we can get a maximum display of classic TFs. Our record so far was 15 Cars at our Display day 2015. Please plan to bring your TF Classic to that 22nd October event. THANKS!

The 2016 “Show and Shine’ Winner:-a Classic TF owned by Dan Hickey from the Central Coast NSW

Enjoy the accompanying photos of this lovely and very usable TF, which Dan has now brought regularly to the last few display days. I thought his “Show and Shine” win in 2017 was very well deserved.

So- sincere congratulations to our reluctant copy writer Dan, and we all hope his classic TF is going well!

The National Motoring Day at Berry NSW

I am not sure if this gets enough publicity, but a really interesting event offered each year is the National Motoring Heritage Motoring Day, which offers the ability to turn up at a range of different nominated venues.

In the Illawarra/South Coast we have at least two nominated venues – the Motorlife Motor Museum at Kembla Grange (a suburb of Wollongong), and the Berry Showground – obviously in Berry itself.

This year it was delightful weather, and I chose to drive down to Berry. Berry is a pretty town and its historic showground provides a classic and beautiful setting. And, at least for 2017, was very well supported with a very strong turnout of classic and historic vehicles.

In my estimation, over 500+ cars were on display, and I really enjoyed a walk around. The photographs below represent the cars which attracted my attention and interest. My selection criteria was simple:- “That’s one I would have liked to have owned or driven”.

Final Comments

I hope you have enjoyed this report, and I would like to thank those MG Car Club members who turned out to support any of our events. Thanks guys!

And now for the super organised:

Next year’s PLANNED CLASSIC TF register events:-

Subject of course to our Car Club Registrar’s Committee’s final approval, I am proposing that the Classic TF runs for 2018 will be:-

1st Half 2018:- WINGS OVER ILLAWARRA 18- is the first Saturday and Sunday of May 2018, so please put those dates SAT-05 and SUN 06 May 2018 into your forward planning diary now!

2nd Half of 2018- the TF Classic event will be the annual Concours and Show Day- usually held on a Sunday in October each year

I wish you trouble free MG Motoring. Enjoy the photos of the 2016 MG Car Club of Sydney’s Show and Shine Classic TF class winner- again congratulations to Dan Hickey -and also from the National Motoring Day at Berry.
