The car has been in Mudgee for quite a few years on a friend’s farm, where it has been living in one of his sheds. He has worked on lots of cars and bought the MGA as a project to do with his daughter. He did quite a bit of work on the body of the car but as time went on, the daughter found other interests and the project got put on the back burner.
My friend retired and as all good retirees do, has been travelling and found lots of things to do including moving from Mudgee, which is where I come in. As he couldn’t take the car with him, and I had always been interested in the car, he offered it to me to purchase. I jumped at the opportunity as I had always wanted a vintage car and loved this MGA Coupe.
I purchased the car in December 2024 and had it delivered to Sydney, to my garage. I have attached photos of the car on the trailer and where it is housed now – my garage in the Northern Beaches of Sydney. It has been covered and kept dry and away from the elements.
I started working on the car but as I work full time, the only weekend course I could find was a TAFE course for spray painting and body work which I thought was somewhere to start. The course was fantastic and I learnt a lot and was able to do work on the bonnet and hood, front grill, petrol tank and quite a few other pieces.
I don’t believe any work has been done on the engine and internal parts of the car. I have a lot of spare parts which will be sold with the car.
After spending a bit of time on restoration and chatting to a few of your members at car shows, I have come to the conclusion that the job is too big for me and the car is not what I want it for. So, I would like to sell the car.
Basically, the car needs restoration and in very basic terms:
- The car body is together and in a reasonably good condition with from what I have been told by club members, not too much rust
- Internally, the car needs full restoration
I have a lot of the parts which will be sold with the car.
