Catching Up On the Classic TF Run to Wings Over Illawarra 2019

Catch up on the action at Wings Over Illawarra, thanks to this report on the Classic TF run by Michael Hough.

Wings Over Illawarra 2019

Michael Hough, 22 May 2019

Wings Over Illawarra offered a pleasant opportunity for a run and social club activity, although it faced a few challenges thanks to the weather.

This year’s airshow was affected by a real contrast in weather. Saturday was a perfect day for the air display, offering mild conditions for both flying and attendees. Sunday, however, proved to be a mix of about an hour of steady rain followed by unpleasant cold wind in both the morning and afternoon. Consequently only about 80% of the flying display was possible on the Sunday.

Nevertheless, an estimated 35,000 people attended the show over the two days, and it produced some excellent flying displays.

As is often the case, our very own Ingo Weinberger attended and took many great pictures, very quickly put them up on our club website in the day or two following the event. I very much welcome the support provided by Ingo, as it enables me to concentrate on other aspects of the air show.

A lot of footage from Wings Over Illawarra is uploaded to YouTube in the days following the event, which makes it a very good resource for sharing the flying experience offered by the event.

Consequently, this report will now focus on reporting with photos of the MG Car Club attendees and display on the Sunday of the air show as well as the supporting and behind the scenes activities at the event. I hope they provide an interesting review of the great range of static aircraft and ground events that were held in conjunction with the air show.

My sincere thanks to all the MG Owners who committed to a long and very enjoyable, albeit wet and windy Sunday!

Enjoy,

Michael Hough
