April 2018 Illawarra Registrar’s Report

A hearty “Hello!” to each of you. It is with pleasure that I can report that by the time you read this article, we will have had the first of the MG Car Club (Illawarra Register) runs in 2018. The planned run will be on Thursday the 22nd of March and find us heading to the Mt Keira Summit park. We’ll enjoy morning tea at the newly-opened Container kiosk at the Mt Keira summit as well as a tour of the nearby Mt. Keira Scout camp.

For full details about the camp, see their website at www.mtkeirascoutcamp.com.au.

The Illawarra Register’s success factors are:

  • Creating a series of relaxed and enjoyable events where we all can take the MG for a run, especially those on historic registration
  • Combining with the Jaguar Drivers Club (Illawarra Register) for events, and as a consequence getting a useful and interesting mix of cars from these two classic British marques.

Thursday 24th of May Run to Claude Harris

Our next run will be on Thursday the 24th of May and feature a visit to the premises of Claude Harris in Albion Park. Claude has owned an MGTA for many years as well as an early model Holden and an absolutely immaculate early Norton motorbike, and has an extensive display of MG and early Holden items.

Claude’s son and daughter are also great car enthusiasts and have offered to put on a sausage sizzle and morning tea at their expense. If you would like to join us, please let us know so that we can advise them of likely numbers. Thank you!

In order to all arrive at Claude’s house in a sensible fashion we will rendezvous at the Hungry Jack’s parking area located at Yallah by the last exit off the F6 freeway. This Hungry Jacks is virtually at the end of the F6 freeway, which heads south from the outskirts of Sydney and currently finishes at Albion Park Rail.

Please aim to be at the Hungry Jack’s Yallah at 10AM on Thursday the 24th of May and we will convoy from there to Claude’s place. If you are running late, or know you will be late, please call me and I will give you Claude’s address at Albion Park for you to join us later.

Some MG related motoring photos

This month (March 2018) I was fortunate enough to go to the Tyabb (Victoria) Air Show, at which there was an excellent turn out of classic cars especially from British marques.

As the associated photos show, there was a good range of MGs present. These were mostly, but not only the traditional range of MGs and also included a few TD2000 MG replicas, which from memory were produced from Malaysia from a period of time. (Suggestion:- if you really know all about them i.e. TD2000s- how about writing an article for Opposite Lock please?)

I have put a much wider range of car type photos up on our club website, so please enjoy those.

I look forward to seeing you on one of our planned 2018 MG Car Club (Illawarra) runs soonA reminder that the dates are:

Thursday 24th May: RV at Hungry Jack’s Yallah at 1000 for a run to Claude Harris’ place

Lunchtime Sunday 22nd July: Christmas in July dinner at Mt Keira Scout Camp

Thursday 27th September TBC

Thursday 22nd November TBC

Please remember- these are social runs, so:

If the weather is kind – bring the MG and enjoy yourself!

If the weather is bad – bring a modern and still enjoy yourself!

Best regards,

Michael Hough
